Abstract
Furfural alcohol (FA) is used in Lysine and Vitamin C synthesis, and it is obtained by furfural hydrogenation. For this reaction is used as catalyst Cu-Cr, but because of its high toxicity, the interest in studying catalytic systems has increased to lessen the environmental impact (Rao, Baker &amp,
Vannice, 1999). In this research we studied catalysts lr/Ti02, reduced at temperatures between 473 K and n3 K, finding the largest conversion in n3 K. The selectivity to furfural alcohol increases at higher temperature of reduction, while lower temperatures favor the formation of acetals because of acid sites present in the catalysts.
We found the presence of SMSI effect at high temperatures, as ascertained by chemisorption. The results of XPS realize the strong influence of the SMSI on the catalytic activity. Analyses byTPR showed the presence of acid sites on the catalysts which explains the changes in selectivity, due to the
release of species from the pioneering metal used for the preparation of the catalysts.

Keywords: FA, acidity, hydrogenation, conversion, selectivity.}, number={1}, journal={Ciencia en Desarrollo}, author={Hugo Alfonso Rojas Sarmiento,Julie Joseane Murcia Mesa, Hancy Marcela Cetina Reyes, Gloria del Carmen Borda Guerra,}, year={2012}, month={mar.}, pages={113–125} }
