Abstract

It presents an investigation’s partial result on the education development, which modeled the Greek civilization and that starts from the question about the educational paradigms that take us to the human formation which turns one, into a political being. Formation can be understood as the human thinking and behavior’s molding act, which allows making out of a person a society’s useful part, by enabling him throughout his own duty, participate in the society’s preservation.
To fulfill with the above mentioned objective, a categories’ reading on the educational notion in Greece is made, between the VIII and IV centuries B.C., or archaic period, emphasizing in the art role as a promoter of the Greek’s society ideals. Starting from the German philosopher and philologist Werner Jaeger’s work, named “Paideia”,
it is searched the areté’s category, virtue which turned out to be a model to the Greek individual formation. This virtue is placed above the paideia, and provides important elements to understand the Greek civilization’s education History.

Key word: Areté, Education, Paideia, Greece, Art.
ER -
