Abstract
The UPTC Archaeological Museum’ lithic collection is one of the witness of the Herrera and Muisca cultures, located in the
Highlands of modern-day Cundinamarca and Boyacá regions. This collection of tools and other devices can be preserved for many years, due to its nature. The described pieces have the marks of their uses, which approaches us to the industry that these cultures carried out around the stone. In them, it is possible to observe signals of a very elaborated handwork in a
predetermined way or using them in their natural shapes, leaving moulded the fabrication techniques and signs of usage.
The systematization and study of these techniques are crucial to the cultural reconstruction and approximation of the
groups who created and used them. The Lithic Collection of the Archaeological museum of the UPTC, comprises approximately
14.000 pieces. This text takes up the tools made in a raw material called sandstone, such as the knocker, the grinding hand, the metate, the loom handle, among others. A possible relation between those tools and the development of the
agriculture, the textile industry and the harvest of seeds is established in the «Cercado Grande de los Santuarios», where it is located now the University Campus.

Key Words: Herrera, Muisca, Blacksmith, Lithic Industry.
ER -
