Cuestiones de Filosofía is a publication of the Escuela de Filosofía y Humanidades of the Facultad de Educación in Universidad Pedagógica y Tecnológica de Colombia. It was founded in 1998 and is aimed at readers interested in the field of philosophy and its relations with other fields.

publishes two issues per year, adopting the continuous publication model. It publishes original articles that investigate various fields of knowledge and currents of thought in philosophy, and it aims to divulge and promote research processes in order to support the strengthening of academic networks at regional, national and international levels.

Texts may be submitted in the form of a scientific research article, a reflection article or a review article. Other forms of publication, such as reviews and translations of philosophical texts, are also considered. The journal publishes articles and reviews in Spanish, English, German, Italian, French and Portuguese in all areas of philosophy.

In order to improve the scientific and editorial quality of the journal, the articles are first evaluated by the editorial committee, which guarantees the relevance of the subject and the object of the research, as well as the fulfilment of the requirements demanded for each type of publication. Once this process has been completed, the articles are sent to two (2) external evaluators who assess their conceptual, theoretical and methodological contribution. The texts that are accepted by the evaluators and corrected by the authors will be published within three months from the date of final approval. The whole process will be carried out free of charge.

Note on costs and copyright

The evaluation procedures, as well as the editorial preparation process of the articles will not generate any cost for the author. Authors retain the copyright on their production and may reproduce or disseminate their document as long as they give due credit to the journal.

Reservation of rights and intellectual property

The receipt of an article does not imply its approval or a commitment regarding the date of its publication. However, the author will be permanently informed about the selection and editing process of his proposal. The text submitted to the journal must be previously unpublished or a first translation into Spanish from the language of origin.

The author must authorize, by signing the letter of assignment of rights of the journal, to copy, reproduce, distribute and publish the article by any digital or reprographic means. Likewise, the submission of articles to the journal Cuestiones de Filosofía implies that the authors cede their patrimonial rights to the Universidad Pedagógica y Tecnológica de Colombia, which in turn may cede them to third parties for non-profit purposes.

Concerning the intellectual property rights of third parties, the author declares that he respects and undertakes to answer for any claim, plagiarism or any other kind of claim that may arise in this respect. Cuestiones de Filosofía is obliged to respect the moral rights of the author, contained in article 30 of Law 23 of 1982. The publisher reserves the right to make minor editing changes for a better presentation of the work.

The journal is licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution Noncommercial 4.0 International license. For this reason, it may be reproduced, distributed and publicly communicated in digital format, provided that the name of the authors and the name of the Universidad Pedagógica y Tecnológica de Colombia are acknowledged. The journal is permitted to quote, adapt, transform and archive, for any purpose (except commercial), as long as authorship is properly acknowledged, a link to the original work is provided and it is indicated whether changes have been made to the original text.

Universidad Pedagógica y Tecnológica de Colombia does not retain the rights to the published works. The contents are the sole responsibility of the authors, who retain their moral, intellectual, privacy and publicity rights.

The endorsement on the intervention of the work (revision, style correction, translation, layout) and its subsequent dissemination is granted through an assignment of rights, which means that the journal, and the Universidad Pedagógica y Tecnológica de Colombia, are exempt from any liability that may arise from ethical malpractice on the part of the authors. Consequently, based on the assignment of rights, the journal is under no obligation to publish retractions or modify information already published, unless the erratum arises from the editorial process. The publication of content in this journal does not represent royalties for contributors.

 

Types of publications

1) Scientific article

It is a report that presents the original results of a research. The structure generally used contains four important sections: introduction, methodology, results and conclusions.

- Introduction: presents the object of the research based on a conceptual or theoretical development and includes its historical background and an explanation of the purpose of the research.

- Method: describes the procedures for carrying out the research.

 - Results: reports the results in detail.

 - Discussion: analyses the implications of the results.

2) Review article

This is the systematization, analysis and balance of research on a particular problem. It aims to give an account of its conceptual, methodological and epistemological references, as well as the advances and trends in the field under investigation. It is characterized by the presentation of an analytical review of at least fifty references, from which the author:

- Synthesizes previous research to inform the reader about the current state of research.

- Identifies relationships, contradictions, gaps and inconsistencies in the literature.

The components of the literature can be observed in a variety of ways. For instance, through the similarity of the concepts of the theories of interest, methodological similarities between the studies reviewed or the historical development of the field (APA. 2010, P.10).

3) Theoretical article

It is paper in which the author draws on existing literature to advance a theory. Theoretical articles are expected to extend and refine theoretical constructs or analyse a theory. The sections of a theoretical article may vary according to the purpose of its content.

Other publications

A smaller number of publications of the following type will be considered:

Reflection article. A document that presents the results of completed research from an analytical, interpretative or critical perspective of the author, on a specific topic, using original sources.

Short article. Short document that presents original, preliminary or partial results of a research, which generally require early dissemination.

Translation. Translations of classical or current texts or transcriptions of historical documents or documents of particular interest in the journal's field of publication.

Book review. A short paper that examines and evaluates a philosophical work. It cannot exceed eight pages, letter size, with right and left margins of 3 centimeters, Word format, Times New Roman 12-point font, 1.5 line spacing.

 

General aspects

Once the document is sent to our mailing address, or uploaded to our website, the author will receive confirmation of the publication deadline (this depends on the journal's agenda, which is established according to the order in which articles are approved). Once the response has been received, if it has been affirmative, the article is sent for evaluation.

Articles submitted to Cuestiones de Filosofía must be original and unpublished; those that have been published in other media, whether in print or on the internet, will not be accepted. They will be submitted anonymously to peer reviewers within 4 to 6 months. The evaluation of the texts will take place at the following times:

1. Once the article has been received, the author is notified of its receipt by e-mail and informed that the review process has been initiated.
2. The editorial committee verifies whether the article complies with the basic requirements that Cuestiones de Filosofía presents in the indications for authors, and whether it has thematic relevance, coherence and clarity, as well as compliance with the conditions set out on “About the submission of the text” in this document. If the text does not meet the basic requirements, it will be returned to the author with appropriate suggestions.
3. If the text complies with the requirements, it will be submitted to a double-blind (anonymous) evaluation process by expert peers, who will issue an opinion on the academic quality of the material. The peer reviewers may suggest changes in order to improve the quality of the text under evaluation.

It is suggested that the comments of the reviewers, as well as those of the editorial committee, be taken into account by the authors, who will make the requested adjustments within a period of no more than ten working days. After receiving the modified article, it will be subjected to a new review. Subsequently, the author will be informed about the final approval of the text. The committee reserves the right to accept the articles to be published in each issue.

The journal reserves the right to make style corrections, which will always be consulted with the authors. During the editing and evaluation process, authors may be asked by the editor to resolve any concerns they may have regarding the article.

 

Evaluation process

Evaluators: The committee of evaluators is made up of professionals with extensive experience and academic recognition in the subjects developed in each article. The evaluation criteria are: originality of content, conceptual rigour, clarity and coherence in both argumentation and exposition, quality of sources and bibliographical references, contributions to knowledge, adequate preparation of the summary, relevance of the title and conclusions. These criteria are intended to guarantee the quality of the articles published in the journal.

Confidentiality: The evaluation process is carried out in the double-blind modality, guaranteeing the confidentiality and anonymity of authors and referees. In case of discrepancy between the evaluators, the text will be sent to a third reviewer, whose decision will define its publication.

Evaluation times: The process takes about six (6) months from the time of the call for reviewers and their acceptance, until the delivery of the concept.

Decision: The articles submitted will be examined in an editorial process that will take place in several phases. The articles received are evaluated by the members of the scientific/editorial committee, the editor and the editorial assistant, who will determine the relevance of their publication. Once it has been established that the article meets the thematic requirements, in addition to the editorial standards indicated in these instructions, it will be sent to two referees (peer reviewers) of the journal, who will determine anonymously:

1. Publishable
2. Publishable with adjustments
3. Not publishable

When an article is classified as "publishable with adjustments", the concept or concepts that support it are submitted to the author for consideration so that he/she can make the proposed corrections. The journal personnel will keep the author informed during the different stages of the editorial process.

Submission of corrections: If peer reviewers' concepts suggest slight modifications, authors should adhere to a timeline not exceeding ten (10) working days. If an article receives concepts that imply substantial modifications, and the editorial committee considers that it can be accepted for a new cycle of evaluations, the authors will have to submit their adjustments within a period of no more than eight (8) weeks. In all cases, an appended report must be submitted listing the changes made to the text.

Rejection of articles: The purpose of the journal's evaluation process is to provide an opportunity for authors to improve their submissions and refine their approaches, towards the construction of a much stronger article. The journal expects authors to benefit from the reviewers' comments when their paper is rejected for publication. Although the journal is willing to receive revised articles, authors are advised not to resubmit a revised version of a rejected article for review before three (3) to six (6) months. The author must inform the editor in detail that the article has been restructured in accordance with the previous comments. The editor will inform the authors of the waiting period, should they express interest in resubmitting their article. The final rejection of an article will be determined when it does not correspond to the subject matter of the journal.

Notes of interest: the editor and the scientific/editorial committee of the journal Cuestiones de Filosofía are the bodies that decide on the publication of the originals. Sending and receiving the material does not oblige its publication. Errors in format and presentation, non-compliance with the journal's rules or incorrect spelling and syntax may be grounds for rejection of the work without being submitted for evaluation.

The journal may make public the following bad scientific practices: plagiarism, falsification or invention of data, individual appropriation of collective authorship and duplicate publication. For this purpose, all articles are submitted to the Turnitin anti-plagiarism software.

 

About the submission of the text

All accepted textual contributions will be subject to the current copyright regulations. Authors must fill in, sign and send to Cuestiones de Filosofía the official form for the cession of copyrights.

Article Texts

Title: It must be directly related to the subject being developed. It is recommended that it should not exceed twelve (12) words, and should be in Spanish and English. A footnote should provide information on the research from which the article derives, the organization that carries it out or the research group, with the name of the project to which it belongs. Similarly, the name of the funding institution (if applicable).

Author: Author's full name and institutional affiliation. In a footnote, the following information should be included: academic qualifications (minimum accepted degree, Master's degree), e-mail and ORCID code. Articles with a maximum of two authors will be accepted from the first issue in 2024.

Abstract: The abstract of an article varies according to the typology, but in general it should introduce the problem, the theory or theories on which the study is based, mention the central thesis of the author, introduce the fundamental concepts of the discussion and present the conclusions of the study. The abstract should NOT be an excerpt from the article, it should be independent. It is written in a single paragraph with a minimum length of 150 words and a maximum of 200 words. It must be presented in Spanish and English.

Key words: These are words that describe the content of the document and their number should not exceed five (5). These words must be found in the Unesco thesaurus: http/databases.unesco.org/thessp/.

References: In the list of references, the author includes only those sources used in the work. In this sense, "a reference list cites works that specifically support a particular article" APA (American Psychological Association). An author who has not been cited in the text should never be referenced.

Format: Length between 30,000 and 40,000 characters with space, including references. Abstract and keywords are not included in the calculation of the length of the contributions. Letter size, with right and left margins of 3 centimeters, Word format, Times New Roman 12 point font with 1.5 line spacing. For quotations longer than four lines, French indentation, Times New Roman 11 font, and for notes, Times New Roman 10. It is recommended that articles not be written in plural when they are written by a single author.

Subtitles: In upper and lower case (not fixed capitals), with bold, without italics, unnumbered and aligned to the left.

Textual quotations of more than four lines: Transcribed in a separate paragraph, with a left margin greater than the rest of the text, single-spaced, without quotation marks or italics.

Footnotes: Arabic numerals (preferably 8 pts, raised by 2 pts.), arranged consecutively and placed before the punctuation mark.

Footnotes: Footnotes should only be used for clarifications or to provide additional data and not for bibliographical references, as these will be included in the body of the text (APA citation system).

Bibliographical citations: The author's surname, the year of publication, p. the number of the page or pages to which the citation corresponds must appear in parentheses.

Graphic material: All graphic material must be presented in a separate file, indicating the programme used (preferably TIF format).

References: These appear at the end of the text in alphabetical order and should follow the APA bibliographic standards, as shown below:

Electronic sources

All writings (book, chapter of a book, article in a journal or article in a book) should be referenced in the same way as their paper counterparts, but at the end, mention should be made of the date on which the web page was reviewed and where.

For example, reference to a journal article.

Submission preparation checklist

As part of the overall process, authors are required to check that their submission meets all the requirements outlined below. Submissions that do not meet these guidelines will be returned to the authors.

- The submission has not yet been published or previously submitted to another journal.

- The submitted file is in Microsoft Word format.

- Web addresses have been added in the references of articles that have a digital version.

- The length of the text is recommended for articles (30,000 to 40,000 characters with space) with 1.5 line spacing, Times New Roman 12 font. For quotations longer than four lines, French sangria, Times New Roman 11 font, and for notes, 10.

- The text uses italics instead of underlining and all illustrations, figures and tables are in separate format, indicating their corresponding places in the text.

- The text complies with the bibliographical and stylistic requirements indicated in the indications for authors.

- The text is not paginated.

- The standards to be taken into account in the style, citations and references are those established by the American Psychological Association (APA, sixth edition).
