Regional clusters as a strategy to overcome competitive disadvantages

Abstract

The article aims to identify the advantages of regional clusters to encourage the competitiveness of companies. Methodologically, a qualitative approach is approached through a bibliometric exercise, which allowed the: collection, review and analysis of documents published between 2002 and 2019, in the Scopus and ISI Web of Science databases. From a sample of 170 documents, the content analysis was carried out to identify the main analytical axes, which respond to the proposed purpose. Among the results, the following stand out: advances in the conceptualization of clusters; the identification of the cluster as a type of agglomeration that facilitates the dissemination of knowledge and technology transfer between companies; and the capacity of the cluster as an articulator of regional institutions. The results allow to conclude the relevance of the configuration of the clusters for the regional productive development, and the strengthening of the competitive advantages of the organizations that comprise it.
