ANÁLISIS RETROSPECTIVO DE NEOPLASIAS DIAGNOSTICADAS EN CANINOS Y FELINOS EN UNA CLINICA VETERINARIA DE LA CIUDAD DE BOGOTA (COLOMBIA)

Abstract

A retrospective study was conducted to evaluate the histopathological analysis of neoplasms of feline and canine patients in a veterinary clinic in the city of Bogota (Colombia) in the period between 2014 - 2023. The samples were obtained by incisional biopsy, excisional biopsy, and fine needle aspiration biopsy and were analyzed by morpho histopathological diagnosis with Hematoxylin and Eosin stains. A total of 717 histopathologies were analyzed between dogs and cats, where some individuals had two or more types of neoplasms. Malignant neoplasms had a higher casuistry compared to benign neoplasms (60.67% and 39.33%, respectively); it was also observed that skin neoplasms were the most frequent (83.82%) followed by gastrointestinal neoplasms (4.88%) and spleen neoplasms (4.88%). Skin neoplasms represented a malignancy rate of 55.74%, with a determining factor among individuals aged 5 to 10 years. This study allowed us to objectively define the frequency of presentation of neoplastic cases in Bogota. However, more standardized and decentralized studies are necessary to obtain the actual prevalence in the city.
