Instructions for authors

Submission of manuscripts. The journal will not receive submissions via email. All manuscripts must be sent through the journal's platform, at the following link:

https://revistas.uptc.edu.co/index.php/perspectiva/about/submissions

Formalization of submission. When submitting a manuscript, the authors must send the Filing Form and Declaration of Originality, correctly completed and signed. This document requires the individual signatures of the authors, but the corresponding author will be responsible for uploading both documents to the platform. If this document is not available, the submission will not be processed.

Information about the authors. In the letter of commitment, the authors must provide their essential academic profile data, which are their ORCID, correctly completed in Employment, Education and qualifications, and Works, their current employment affiliation, their contact email and telephone number or WhatsApp.

Metadata. All manuscripts must have a title, structured abstract (according to the type of article being submitted) and keywords.

Types of articles.

  • Original articles. This type of file should not exceed 9,000 words. It is recommended to send the text with a single line spacing. This type of document is expected to present, in a detailed manner, the original results of research projects. The structure generally used contains four important sections: introduction, methodology, results and conclusions.
  • Review article. This type of file should not exceed 9,000 words. It is recommended to send the text with a single line spacing. This type of document is expected to analyze, systematize and integrate the results of published or unpublished research on a field in science or technology, in order to account for advances and development trends. It is characterized by presenting a careful bibliographic review of a wide sample of references.
  • Technical notes: These may be between 4,000 and 7,000 words long, with double-spaced lines. Their structure is not fixed, but they must be logical and coherent: the statement of the question that they intend to explain and their application or use in a particular economic, political, environmental or social context.
  • Book Reviews. Book Reviews can be of two kinds: a) descriptive, which inform the potential reader of a book about its content and some of its characteristics, or b) analytical, where the content of the text is evaluated to point out its scope and limitations. Documents must not exceed 3,000 words with double-spaced lines and must contain: information about the book reviewed (including the publisher and number of pages), the name of the author of the review, institutional affiliation and email address. The file must be in .doc or .docx format and must be sent through the journal's (OJS).
  • Interviews. The length of the article may be between 4,000 and 7,000 words, with a half-space. Its structure is not fixed, but it must be logical and coherent: presentation of the topic, presentation and argumentation based on a dialogued narrative between questions and answers. It is suggested, if necessary, to include a bibliography with a minimum of 10 sources (this is not a condition). The document must include the title of the interview on the home page (maximum 20 words), information in the footer about the person conducting the interview (name, last degree obtained and institution that awarded it, institutional affiliation, city, country and email) and the header section, which contains the name of the interviewee and a description of the contributions and reasons that account for their importance. The file must be in .doc or .docx format and must be sent through the journal's (OJS).

All types of articles must ensure that:

  • The manuscript is original and unpublished and has not been simultaneously submitted or submitted to another journal.
  • The title page contains the title of the manuscript in Spanish, English and Portuguese (maximum 20 words), contact information for the author (name, last degree obtained and institution that awarded it, institutional affiliation, email, title of the project and the research group from which the article originates, as well as the funding entity of the project, if any), abstract in Spanish, English and Portuguese (maximum 250 words), keywords in Spanish, English and Portuguese (maximum seven, in alphabetical order, recognized in thesauri).
  • All illustrations, including photos, diagrams, maps and graphs, are named and referenced as Figures. Both tables and figures are cited in the text and numbered in order of appearance in the same. The title of the figures is at the bottom, and that of the tables, at the top. Please ensure that all citations to figures and tables in the text match the files provided in JPG, TIFF, or GIF format (greater than 400 dpi).
  • Maps contain title, date, legend, coordinate system, scale, north, and data source or author.
  • The manuscript has been reviewed for spelling and grammar and complies with all bibliographic and style requirements indicated in the guidelines for authors that correspond to American Psychological Association (APA) standards, latest edition.
  • Authors must complete and attach, in addition to the manuscript, the signed Letter of Commitment. If the material has been previously published, its publication in the journal is not acceptable. Perspectiva Geográfica encourages authors to include any conflict of interest in the declaration.
  • The collection of the authors' ORCID ID and their Cv-LAC registration, if they are Colombian nationals, is part of the submission process for this journal and a condition for publication.

Languages. The journal will publish articles originally written in English, Portuguese and Spanish in full text.

Citation style. The journal follows the APA citation style (in its updated version) for the references included in the body of the text and to order the structure of the citation of each source, in the final list of the manuscript. The journal's citation style can be consulted here:

Graphic aspects. The journal asks authors to take into account the following considerations regarding the graphic components of manuscripts:

Titles, sources and denomination. All tables and figures in a manuscript must have a title and indicate their source. It is also important for authors to know that a table, figure or image cannot be taken from a copyrighted source without permission (it is recommended not to include more than 5 tables and 5 figures). In the case of such graphic components, the right of citation does not apply since they are considered a work in themselves and the right of citation can only be applied to quote or use a fragment of a work, not the complete work.

On the other hand, any photograph, image, illustration or graphic component that is not a table will be called a figure. Likewise, a table or figure cannot be included in a manuscript without being mentioned in the body of the text; if it is not mentioned or mentioned in the body of the text, it will be considered an error.

Preparation and use of tables and figures. Authors are encouraged to preferably make their own tables and figures to use in their manuscripts. In the case of using a table or figure from another source, the authors will be responsible for processing the permissions and must submit them to the journal, with complete information on the limitations on their use or reproduction.
