Investigating the Complex Dynamics of Rural-Urban Migration: A Bibliometric Analysis

Abstract

In developing countries, migration results from origin push factors like unemployment, poverty, natural disasters, and underdevelopment. However, migration from rural to urban areas in developing countries contributes to urbanisation and is viewed as an investment to secure improved and higher-paying employment opportunities. The scope of the rural-urban migration area is mapped in this study in relation to employment and the development of new factors. To map the field, first systematic literature review was performed on the retrieved literature from a chosen database (SCOPUS). Further, using the bibliometrix R package and VOSviewer, descriptive and content analysis were carried out as part of the bibliometric analysis. The analysis focuses on the various viewpoints on the topic, including the literature's descriptive details, the authors' and sources' relevance, their contributions, and the countries' contributions. It also looks at the topic's driving themes and any newly discovered factors that may be contributing to rural-urban migration.
