Journal of the History of Latin American Education is the organ of expression of the Society for the History of Latin American Education (SHELA) and its main objective is to publicize the research results of the members of the Society and other works that are considered relevant to the advancement of studies in our area. Therefore, the pages are open to all quality contributions on the history of Latin American education and related sciences that emphasize our educational environment.the editorial committee is aware of the task we propose and we hope that from the second issue we will start the section of monographic articles that will be in charge of SHELA research groups that have demonstrated research progress.it must be said that, this publication had been thought as a remote goal in our first Iberoamerican meeting in September 1992 in Santa Fe de Bogota. Then, it was structured until it was approved by the Board of Directors of the Society at the meeting of November 7, 1996 and the Advisory Council was regulated at the meeting of November 7, 1997. In the next issue of the Journal we hope to complete all the members of this Committee. This first issue goes hand in hand with our organizational development. As can be seen since we started the Bulletin of the History of Latin American Education in October 1993, we have made considerable progress. In fact, the Bulletin has served to maintain a continuous communication of our activities and now we aspire that the Journal becomes the disseminator of our research.
