Analysis dimensions of the Voluntary Sustainability Standards in international agribusiness trade

Abstract

The article aims to identify the main dimensions of analysis in the Voluntary Sustainability Standards (VSS) in the international trade of agro-industrial goods. To this end, a mixed design was carried out where, through quantitative techniques, the conceptual structure of the field was identified between 2002 and 2020. Based on the results, a corpus of 263 scientific documents was configured and the processing of indicators was carried out in the SciMAT software. From a qualitative perspective, a content analysis exercise was developed that allowed the identification of five central analytical dimensions: theoretical approach; promoter of international food trade; incentive for the production of biomass and forest products; encouragement of fair trade and limitations of VSS. Among the main results, a growing trend in the application of VSS as a form of private government and the limitations in its implementation stand out.
