From didactics of disciplines to comparative didactics: the development of a field

Abstract

The didactic field in France has existed for more than half a century. Its history reflects the consolidation of a space of theorization and practice on the school learning processes of scientific knowledge. During this time, great theories have been developed, important concepts have been created, a university training space has been promoted, and a comparative field worthy of study has been consolidated. The study of didactics—less as a technique, or instrumental, and more as a theoretical-practical space of disciplinary and scholastic knowledge—is very important for the understanding of the shaping of didactic knowledge. Thus, this article outlines a timeline in which three major moments appear: that of the disciplines and their basic concepts, that of professional didactics, and that of comparative didactics. The latter could be understood as the meta-reflexive moment on the two previous ones, as the singular understanding of the conditions of circulation of notions between didactics.
