Anthropocene Rationality and Environmental Education

Abstract

This article discusses the concept of rationality that guides different readings about the Anthropocene in the west. Based on a philosophical hermeneutic approach, this movement takes as reference, in the first place, the vestiges of rationality and its relationship with Greek mythology and demonstrates its greatest expression in European modernity. In a second place, based on this debate, the study recognizes the possibility of merging modern instrumental rationality and the Anthropocene as Anthropocene Rationality. From the limits and crisis of this rationality, the perspective of Environmental Rationality is suggested as a reconstructive possibility of historical and pedagogical narratives. Finally, it considers that one of the fields in which environmental rationality is very fruitful is Environmental Education, due to the reconstructive movements it has already been carrying out.
