Experiences of an educational community in Envigado with remote education based on COVID-19

Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic caused a rupture in the educational systems in the world, given the impossibility of face-to-face attendance and the scarce infrastructure of educational institutions to deal with remote learning. Therefore, this article presents the results obtained from field research whose objective was to analyze the experiences of the educational community of third-grade students of the Colombo-British school, located in the municipality of Envigado, Colombia. This research was performed in 2020 in order to inquire into the remote school system which arose as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. For this purpose, qualitative, hermeneutic-comprehensive research was conducted. The unit of analysis consisted of the transcription of three semi-structured interviews with teachers in charge of group management, two focus groups, one with the directors of the institution and the other with the parents of the participating students, and the accounts of the students school experiences to reveal experiences with remote learning as a restructuration process of the traditional academic experience. This allowed the mobilization of teaching processes and encouraged further involvement in the educational process. Thus, outlining a new horizon for education.
