Principle of progressivity and non-reversibility in inclusive education for people with disabilities in Colombia

Abstract

This article presents a research project 1 focused on analyzing the principle of progressivity
and non-reversibility in inclusive education for people with disabilities in Colombia. Presented
as a reflective construction, this paper retakes the Decrees that have given support to the
implementation of this educational project, as well as the experience of 33 people with
disabilities who have gone through this education system and who are still high school students
in the city of Medellin. The study was oriented from a critical and analytical perspective
using documentary analysis and focus group techniques. The results obtained conclude that
the principle of progressivity and non-reversibility recognizes a political, conceptual, and
procedural progress that has transversed through the education system from early childhood
education to higher education. Results also show that the major obstacle lies in the availability
of resources for the continuity and sustainability of educational strategies required in inclusive
education.
